Why I Contributed To The Labour Party

1 Comment 16 August 2010

Before you get your knives out let me just state that this is NOT a political piece.

This is just MY thoughts on some of the ways the political parties in Australia are asking for donations.

And the reason why I give the Labour party the grand sum of $2.50

This letter arrived in my mail box the other day from the Liberal Party:

australian federal election 2010,liberal party

asking us very nicely to donate and ‘Stand up for Australia’.

Neither my partner nor I are registered with the Liberals so I’m assuming that most of the State, if not the country got a similar letter. Whereby they have got a hold of everyone’s names and addresses off the electoral role and sent this letter, or a version of it to everybody.

If this were a business trying to make money through direct mail, I’m pretty sure they would have lost a whole lot of cash.

Why?

Well if this were a sales letter for a product where someone was asking you to hand over some money, would you do it?

Did you feel they were talking to you, meeting your needs and desires, giving you enough of a reason why you should trust them and hand over the cash?

Whereas the Labour party were offering blocks of chocolates for $2.50

australian federal election 2010

and it was a Friday afternoon :-)

Is Jail Time Good For Your Career?

1 Comment 12 July 2010

Apparently ‘they’ say that any publicity is good publicity.

Is this really true?

Lets take the recent example of Ms Lindsay Lohan.

Last week she was sentenced to 90 days in jail.

Whether she actually serves any time in jail is not the issue here. What I would like to know is whether the publicity storm surrounding her case is going to have a detrimental effect on her career. Or will she be more popular than ever.

Can anyone say Deja vu ?

In 2007 Paris Hilton was sentenced to 45 days in jail.

Her fans petitioned California Governor Arnold Schwarzeneggar to pardon her. Something like 20,000 people signed the petition.

Else where on the internet someone registered the domain www.jailparishilton.com to petition that she be sentenced as ordered.
The story is that over 60,000 people signed that petition…

Ms Hilton ended up doing jail time.

So what was the fall out, if any?

3 years later Paris still gets her share of the limelight. Her career has continued with more acting roles, TV shows, promotional endeavours and fragrance lines.

It doesn’t appear that her time in jail has harmed her career any. Though whether the family fortune has anything to do with that…

What do you think? Does being sentenced to prison time actually helps someones career?

In the case of starlets and rich heiresses it certainly doesn’t seem to harm it.

But I’m certainly not going to try it.

Pretty simple really – and I reckon it would work in any market.

7 Signs You’re Addicted To The World Cup

1 Comment 29 June 2010

1) You have the vuvuzela as your ring tone.

2) You send your wife/girlfriend/partner out of the room with a red card offence for talking when you’re watching a match.

3) You’ve mortgaged your house to get a Jabulani ball. You just have to have one because you know that it doesn’t matter if you’ve got the skills, it’s simply a matter of luck if you find the back of the net.

4) If you’re English, well you’re not anymore cos you threw away your citizenship.

5) Even when watching cute puppy videos on youtube you have a need to hear the soothing sounds of the vuvuzela

6) When someone shakes your hand you throw yourself on the ground screaming foul and clutching your face.

7) Oh yeah, and you watch every match, every replay, every highlights package and read every article to do with the World Cup.

Have I missed anything? let me know below :)

How Many Hours Can You Play Tennis?

0 Comments 24 June 2010

Playing tennis for exactly 10 hours? Holy cow, that takes dedication.

At Wimbledon 2 basically unknown mens players played a match that lasted TEN HOURS.

And they’re not even finished!

At exactly 10 hours the match was halted and scores were tied 6-4, 3-6, 6-7, 7-6, 59-59

The only reason they stopped playing? It was TOO DARK!

Frenchman Nicolas Mahut told the umpire I want to play on, but I can’t see the ball,”

Apparently this is the new record (by a looooong way) of long tennis matches. And that’s across all Grand Slams and any tournament you can name.

So how dedicated are you?

What are you willing to do for 10  hours straight?
